Quality Manager Set to Take Part in Three Peaks Challenge
Damian Brant, together with teammates Adrian Micklewright and David Thomasson, will be scaling Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Mount Snowdon, the three highest peaks in Britain, in aid of Rugeley and District Community First Responders.
Talking about the forthcoming challenge, Damian says, "Myself, Adrian and David are all regulars at the Olde Peculiar pub in Handsacre. One day in the pub, after Dave and I had been for a 15 mile walk in the Peak District, which, as we don't do a lot of walking we thought was quite an achievement, we mentioned it and someone said that if we wanted a real challenge we should do the Three Peaks Challenge. This is the ultimate challenge in walking in Britain and involves scaling the three highest peaks in England, Scotland and Wales in just 24 hours, including travelling time between each mountain. We will be entering the challenge on 19 July as The 3 Peak-uliars, in recognition of the great support we have received from the pub, and needless to say we are now in a strict regime of training"
In addition, as the challenge has to be completed in 24 hours, the three have enlisted the help of others in the pub as a support crew including the pub's General Manager, Caroline Duncan, who adds, "This challenge is not just an afternoon stroll but a really grueling, punishing 24 hours. There's precise navigation involved both on the roads and in the mountains and additional drivers are essential. The role of the support crew will therefore be a major factor in whether the walkers are successful in the challenge."
