Olympic Bus Set to Stop at Gardening Event
East Staffordshire Borough Council have organised for the 2012 Olympic bus to be a stand out feature at this year's Gardening Olympics, which take place on Saturday, June 27th at Shobnall Leisure Complex.
The Olympic Bus will provide an insight into what the Olympics is all about and also provide an interesting history of the prestigious event.
It will also include up-to-date details and drawings of what the venues for the 2012 Olympics are expected to look like. Not only are these venues being constructed to host the 2012 Olympic Games but they will also be the foundations to provide a legacy of sport in the UK.
Councillor Bernard Peters, Deputy Leader for Environment and Leisure, said: "Youngsters that get to have a tour around the bus will hopefully gain knowledge of what the Olympics Games is all about and then sense the pride and passion an athlete gets from being able to represent their country in their chosen sport.
"This may even inspire the young generation not only to get into sport but to want to emulate the success of the nation and the athletes and maybe one day perform at the Olympics themselves!"
The Gardening Olympics, run by the East Staffordshire Borough Council, is now in its 3rd year and offers a wide range of different activities.
The event includes activities such as the School's Flower show - judged by Britain In Bloom judges - Punch and Judy shows, musical performances and a variety of sporting activities for children such as Fruit and Spoon Race, Carrot Relay Race, Potato Sack Race, Cabbage Shot Putt, Banana Boomerang and Welly Wanging, with prizes going to the winners of each event.
There will also be other fun filled activities such as bouncy castles and face painters. Refreshments will also be available on the day.
The gates open for the public at 12.00pm with the Mayor's official opening speech at 12.10pm.
The sporting events registration is at 12.00pm and the afternoon concludes with a medal ceremony at 2.45pm. The event itself will finish around 4.15pm.
