Driving Down Deaths on the Roads
The Firefighters have linked up with local car dealerships in the area to promote road safety to members of the public buying cars. Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service have had several hundred road safety packs produced that will be given to customers buying cars at the point of sale.
Crew Manager, Andy Oakley says, "45 people were killed or seriously injured on the roads of East Staffordshire
during 2007, we are committed as a task group to reduce the incidence of death and injury resulting from road traffic collisions. By issuing the information pack we can educate members of the public on road safety issues. The pack will be issued to people who buy a new or used car. Nine dealerships in the area have agreed to come on board with us. At the moment this initiative is just running in East Staffordshire as a pilot scheme."
The following dealerships have agreed to promote the initiative: T L Darby (VW), Inchcape (Kia), Inchcape (Toyota), TC Harrison (Ford), Sutton Park (Renault), Pentagon (Peugeot/Vauxhall), Ian Shipton Cars, Bristol Street (Citreon), Stratstone (BMW/Volvo).
Any other dealerships interested in issuing the road safety packs should contact East Staffordshire Area Command on 01785 898503 or email a.oakley@staffordshirefire.gov.uk.
