100 Missions for Staffs Air Ambulance
The County helicopter operates from a temporary base at Tatenhill Airfield, near Burton on Trent and has been deployed everyday since its launch date.
Over 100 missions have been flown by the flight crew, with road accidents, hospital transfers and industrial incidents accounting for the majority of the workload for the aircrew.
Speaking about the new helicopter service, County Air Ambulance operations manager, Ian Clayton said:
"We are extremely pleased with the way the service is running in Staffordshire. Our temporary base at Tatenhill Airfield is proving ideal for our operational needs and the fact that we have already undertaken over one hundred missions clearly identifies the need for a helicopter service based in the county".
The helicopter operation is funded solely by the public who raise £5.6 million every year to ensure County Air Ambulance takes to the sky. In Staffordshire, an appeal for £1million for the Staffordshire Air Ambulance was launched in October 2007. All the monies raised by the appeal goes to ensure the new aircraft is available to the community, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.
