Sixth Form Students Have a Head For Business
Students from De Ferrers Specialist Technology College, have been named "Company of the Year" for the West Midlands region of the Young Enterprise Awards. They will now join 12 teams from around the country to compete in the national finals.
The teams were tasked to come up with a product and a business plan, as well as a presentation and a trade stand to accompany their product. Their product name is the QWERTY organiser band, which is a place and pen/memory stick holder for diaries and organisers. It has proved very popular with students, teachers and local business people. They impressed the judges with their company report, their trade stand and their presentation, all which scored highly and secured them victory.
Now, the task is to take it to the national finals, where they will compete against teams from schools up and down the country. The finals take place in London on the 6, 7 and 8 of July, meaning the team now have to work hard and maintain their high standard of professionalism.
County Councillor Bob Fraser, local member for East Staffordshire - Dove and Chairman of Governors at the school, said: "This is a tremendous achievement for the pupils of De Ferrers. They have worked extremely hard to get their business up and running. Not only is the QWERTY band a good idea, but they have reinforced this with a sound business plan, a quality company report, and an eye-catching trade stand. I want to congratulate the pupils on their hard work, and wish them all the best for the national final."
County Councillor Veronica Downes, Cabinet Member for Schools, said: "I'm extremely pleased that the pupils' hard work has been recognised, and I wish to congratulate every one of them for their hard work and commitment to the project. It is extremely encouraging to see our young people being successful at a regional level, and I wish them the same success at the national finals in July."
