Celebrating

Fifty six learners, who are on the Learning for Life programme for adults with learning difficulties and disabilities, have been studying the certificate as part of their two year course, and have now achieved accreditation.

Commenting on the group's success Lecturer Jean Lambert said, "The aim of the Learning for Life programme is to equip our learners with the skills and confidence to enable them to live an independent life and cope with everyday situations. The ASDAN Towards Independence award creates a framework of activities through which personal, social and independence skills can be developed and recognised. As such, it provides an opportunity for learners to achieve personal and social development enhancing their self-esteem. Everyone has worked very hard and they have all got a tremendous amount out of it. We are all very proud of what they have achieved so it was great to mark their success with a presentation."
Presenting the students' certificates was Keith Norris, College Principal & Chief Executive, who added "It is very important for our Learning for Life students that they develop their ability to respond positively to the everyday challenges of life which most of us take for granted. Each of the learners has worked very hard and learnt a wide variety of skills that are necessary for them to live independent lives. A number of them have developed the skills necessary to continue on to further education courses, which will enable them to develop vocational skills and to contribute to the local economy. They should be very proud of their achievements and dedication, we certainly are."
