Burton College Students Celebrate Record 99% A Level Success

The College has continued its record of consistently increasing the pass rates each year with a 2% jump on last year's results, which is significantly higher than the national increase of ½%.

College students also achieved 100% pass rate in 21 subjects including Mathematics, English Language and Literature, Physics and Law.

Amongst those celebrating was Rebecca Moorcroft (19) from Branston, who achieved a grade A in Media Studies together with grade Bs in English Language and Literature and Law. Overjoyed at her results, Rebecca will now be going to Lancaster University to study Media and Cultural Studies in September.

Commenting on the students' achievements, College Principal and Chief Executive Keith Norris said, "This is an exceptional set of results and a tribute to the students and staff of the College. Achieving an overall pass rate of 99% against a national pass rate of 97%, which includes selective Grammar Schools and private schools, is an outstanding achievement. This is even more remarkable as the College students come from various educational backgrounds and include part-time students as well as mature students returning to learning.

The College's record of consistently increasing pass rates is second to none as illustrated with this year's increase of 2% against the national average of less than ½ percent. We are now one of a very few General Further Education Colleges with pass rates higher than the national average and most state schools.

Today's results are the culmination of the students' hard work and dedication, together with the commitment of every member of staff to ensure that each student achieves to the maximum of their capabilities. It is particularly pleasing to see students from a wide range of backgrounds and with varying levels of previous educational achievement succeeding. Obviously we are very proud of the students that have achieved three or four grade As but we are equally pleased for the students who have worked extremely hard to get the range of results they needed to progress to the College's University Centre or to go to other Universities. Our congratulations and best wishes for a successful career go to all our students who have received their results."
