Survey Set for Resident Parking

The East Staffordshire Joint Parking Committee has approved the resident consultation as the next phase of implementing Resident Parking Zones.

At a meeting on Thursday, July 17th, committee members considered a report prepared by Staffordshire County Council and RTA Associates, a specialist parking consultant, which recommended that consultation with residents on the potential implementation of a Resident Parking Zone should be taken in the following areas:

a) Burton Town Centre Zone - Uxbridge Street (north), James Street, Ordish Street, Park Street, Cross Street, Moor Street, Duke Street, Moseley Street and Milton Street.

b) Burton Hospital Zone - Lower Outwoods Road, St George's Road, St. Margaret's Road.

c) Uttoxeter Town Centre Zone - Balance Street, New Street, John Street, James Street, Collin Street.

Councillor Robert Hardwick, Deputy Leader for Development and Regeneration, said: "These streets were selected following extensive survey work on parking patterns undertaken by the parking consultant.

"Residents in these streets should expect to receive consultation papers in the next few weeks and it is important that these be returned to enable the Council to establish the extent of the support for the schemes."

It will cost a resident who parks in the Zone just under £1 per week for a permit, following the Committee's decision to set the annual fee at £50, although concessions will be given to Senior Citizens, owners of hybrid vehicles and Blue Badge Holders.

The money collected from these permits will allow the Council to administer the scheme and provide the additional enforcement required to ensure that the zones are effective and kept clear of non-authorised vehicles.

It was also resolved at the meeting that in the vicinity of the Hospital Zone more traditional targeted parking restrictions, such as single or double yellow lines, should be considered for appropriate locations in some of the surrounding streets to tackle the problems experienced by residents.
