In Bloom Judges to Open New Flowerbed

On Thursday, July 24th, the town's flower power was judged by members of the Heart of England in Bloom competition, who looked at the floral decorations and quality and cleanliness of the town's open spaces.

The judges started their three-hour tour of the town at the Council's Greenhouse Horticultural Centre in Stapenhill where they unveiled a new raised garden, which has been designed and built to enable people in wheelchairs to enjoy gardening.

The garden was built using £500 sponsorship money from the Midlands

Co-op.

Councillor Bernard Peters, Deputy Leader for Health and Leisure, said: "This was a perfect opportunity for Burton's judges to see how East Staffordshire is working to make sure all our residents have the opportunity to enjoy the benefits of gardening as well as how our communities work together with the Council to keep Burton an attractive, greener place to live."

The Heart of England In Bloom competition gives towns and villages across the country the opportunity to compete for four medals - Bronze, Silver, Silver Gilt and Gold.

For the last four years Burton has been awarded a Silver Gilt award and this year the town is hoping to achieve the elusive Gold.

The winners will be announced at a regional awards ceremony in September, which will be held this year in Burton's Town Hall.
