Fox's Factory Granted Planning Permission

The Uttoxeter factory is currently going head-to-head with a fellow biscuit factory in Batley, Yorkshire, as parent company Northern Foods plans to move production from both sites to one site by either closing the Uttoxeter factory and building a new all-purpose site in Batley, or extending the Uttoxeter factory and closing the Batley site.

The application is for two-phase, front, side and rear extensions to the Uttoxeter site, including part of an adjacent sports field at Cheadle Road, with additional car parking.

It was considered at the committee meeting on Monday, February 16th, held in Uttoxeter Town Hall, and permitted subject to a 106 agreement to contribute towards improved sporting facilities and a number of conditions.

Although the planning application received a number of objections from nearby residents, including concerns about noise and fumes, disruption during construction and a loss of light to residential properties, the Committee agreed that the wider significance of the application in potentially safeguarding the future of the site was also a major consideration.

Councillor David Brookes, Chairman of the Planning Committee, said: "The proposals are entirely within our current policy guidelines and although the impact of the development was taken into consideration, the knock-on benefits of this application are significant, both for the hundreds of jobs dependant on the factory staying open and the overall future of the town."
