Burton Police Officer Collects Top Community Award

Currently based at Winshill but soon transferring to Uttoxeter, PC Roberts was given the award for her efforts which have helped make a real difference to the community.

"She is consistently performing to a high standard above and beyond her core responsibilities and makes a real difference to the neighbourhood she polices," says the official citation.

It continues: "Since she has been at Winshill, PC Roberts has gained an in depth knowledge of the area and people who live there.

She is known by sight and by name and she has developed a rapport with people of all ages.

Wendy has made a point of targeting persistent young offenders who are responsible for much of the anti-social behavior and nuisance crime in the area.

She is well known to these individuals and their families and has been responsible for arresting many of them and others for committing crime and causing nuisance problems.

In addition to her proactive approach, PC Roberts has embraced all the principles of neighbourhood policing. She has been responsible for a number of problem solving initiatives and has gained the trust and confidence of those living in Winshill."

• THE AWARD: Christopher James was a serving Constable when he died from illness in 1974. His family and friends presented a trophy to the force in his memory.
